THE MULTINATIONAL STATISTICAL CAPACITY BUILDING PROGRAM FOR MANAGING FOR DEVELOPMENT RESULTS, PHASE 4.2 GRANT

This grant is from the African Development Bank (AfDB) to the Regional Institute for Population Studies (RIPS), University of Ghana to implement a Statistical Capacity Building Programme in Ghana as part of the Bank’s support to finance the foreign currency costs of a broader statistical capacity building program in Africa.

RIPS is one of the statistical training centres that has benefited from the grant for the execution of the programme at the national level. The grant is in the sum of UA178,571.43 (US$250,000.00) for a one year period.

The program focuses on training and capacity building of selected personnel from the Births and Deaths Registry to strengthen the civil registration systems and make them relevant for development planning in the country. It is also to build the capacity of personnel of the Ghana Statistical Service for the 2020 round of censuses relative to data collection, analysis and reporting for development.

Participants of the capacity building program are to be selected from the MMDAs in Ghana where the status of statistics for development planning is limited. It is anticipated that at the end of the program execution, capacity at the district level for statistical analysis would increase to benefit the implementation of district development planning activities.
